Steve Humphrey recalls how Southsea greengrocer Alec Rose sailed single handedly around the world in 1967, returning the next year to a hero's welcome and a knighthood. His yacht, Lively Lady, is now operated by a charity which offers life-changing opportunities to disadvantaged young people. Some footage (c) Pathe

Episode 13 Mesmerised Children. One of a series of features which celebrate BBC South's 50 years of broadcasting. In 1979 Emma and Joanna Dunckley would stop and stare at the television at the same time every day, mesmerised by the opening titles of BBC South Today. 31 years later we gave the film to Joanna, to play as a surprise at her sister Emma's wedding.
