The new Mechanised Army goes into action during manoeuvres on Salisbury Plain." Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. Opening shot has a number of small armoured cars and motor cycles driven by soldiers. They are wearing tin helmets as the convoy roll through village streets. Dark footage of large tanks coming uphill towards camera, and rolling away down the road. M/S tanks and personnel carriers negotiate a country road. L/S of many lorries carrying soldiers stretching in long line in distance. M/S motorbikes and trucks crossing a hillside in the Wessex plains and lorries climbing a hill. Note: Item title missing. Some footage dark in places and grainy

    🎬British Pathé – Flight Lieutenant Kinkead's RAF 'wonderplane' fails to take off in his bid to beat the world air speed record. Full titles read: "300 Miles an hour? - Bad luck mars first attempt of Flight Lt. Kinkead & R.A.F. wonder 'Plane to beat World record." Calshot, Hampshire. M/S of Flight Lieutenant Kinkead climbing into the cockpit of his plane, the Supermarine Napier S.5.; L/S of the plane being wheeled down a ramp into the sea. L/S of the plane picking up speed for takeoff, then slowing down - something is wrong! L/S of the plane being towed back towards the quay by a boat; Flight Lt Kinkead is seen climbing from the plane and onto the shoulders of a waiting rescue man, standing thigh-deep in the water. The man carries Kinkead on his shoulders to the quayside ramp (oh, the shame!), where he jumps down and walks off - it looks quite comical

  • Model Racing Cars Aka Indoor Car Racing (1956)

    🎬British Pathé – Model cars that can race at 60 mph. Boscombe, Bournemouth, Dorset. C/U 2 men, Alban Adams and Christopher Crockett, who make their own model racing cars. C/U model tyre home-made in special moulds. The cars are perfect replicas of various Formula 3 cars built to a scale of one sixteenth. They run on an eggcup full of diesel oil. C/U Alban Adams putting finishing touches to one of the racing cars. Some of the cars are put on racing track with a simple fitting which keeps them on single track lines.
