Episode 5 Royal Celebrations. One of a series of features which celebrate BBC South's 50 years of broadcasting. In 1977 BBC South filmed the Silver Jubilee celebrations in a Dorset village. Thirty four years later Steve Humphrey showed the film to children in the local school, who were amused to see what their parents had got up to.

🎬British Movietone - This was Romsey on the day of the wedding: Winter had come to Hampshire. But in spite of the snow, the people of Romsey wanted to see everybody and everything! Seen arriving was Kenneth More, one of the many guests. Then, the arrival of the Royal Family at the station. It was an exciting event for the Prince of Wales and Princess Anne who was to be a bridesmaid for the first time. Next, the arrival at Romsey Abbey: the bridegroom, Mr David Hicks, came with Lord Brabourne, his best man, and the bride, Lady Pamela Mountbatten, with her father, Earl Mountbatten of Burma. After the marriage service, "Broadlands", the Mountbatten home, was the scene of the first reception. There had to be two, so many people wanted to wish the happy pair good luck!

🎬British Movietone - Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh attend Sunday morning service at Romsey Abbey. The couple have been staying at Lord Mountbatten's home, Broadlands, and happily posed for the cameras in its grounds.

🎬British Movietone - Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were bridesmaids at the wedding of Patricia Mountbatten to Lord Brabourne. The streets of Romsey were crowded with onlookers trying to catch a glimpse of the various members of the Royal Family who attended the wedding of Earl Mountbatten's eldest daughter.
